A newly unveiled statue honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk was vandalized with red paint outside Turning Point USA’s Phoenix headquarters early Sunday, only three days after the memorial was dedicated on the first anniversary of his killing.
The eight-foot bronze statue was found with paint across its face, neck, torso and left hand, Arizona’s Family reported. A nearby memorial sign was defaced, with Kirk’s face crossed out and the word “Jesus” marked through. Turning Point USA Chief Operating Officer Tyler Bowyer said another marking appeared to read “Satan.”
Turning Point USA said it was reviewing surveillance footage and working with law enforcement to identify the vandal. The organization pledged to restore the statue and replace the damaged signs, calling the act “diabolical.” FOX 10 Phoenix reported the paint had been removed by Sunday evening.
Phoenix police said officers responded to calls about vandalism near 48th Street and Beverly Road shortly after 8 a.m. No suspect or arrest had been announced. Authorities asked anyone with information to contact Phoenix police or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, said the damage would strengthen rather than diminish her husband’s legacy. “They think spray paint can obscure his legacy, but it will only spread it further,” she wrote, adding that the organization would continue its work.
Turning Point unveiled the statue Sept. 10 during a memorial at its headquarters. Utah sculptor Quintin McCann created the likeness wearing Kirk’s signature “Freedom” shirt and cross necklace, with details extending to his wedding ring.
Kirk was fatally shot at a Turning Point event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, 2025. Tyler Robinson has pleaded not guilty to murder charges and could face the death penalty if convicted. Police continue investigating the statue vandalism.
